you could probably be a kennel attendant – ei, cleaning, filling food & water, etc. due to insurance and legal factors you probably cannot work directly with the animals, but that probably differs from state to state. go to a local shelter and speak with the manager. they can tell you what you can and cannot do.

check the policy of your state and local animal shelter

Most shelters have an age limit, you have to call and ask.

HOWEVER, if they say no, try googling ‘feline rescue’ or ‘dog rescue’ in your city, they can ALWAYS use volunteers, guaranteed. (You might ask the shelter people who the local rescues are, they probably work with them on some things).

a lot of humane societies will let you volunteer. some places say that if you’re under 18, you need a parent or guardian but it just depends on the shelters in your area.

Usually, animal shelters like the RSPCA only accept people 15 yr and over but one of my friends was 14 when she applied to help at a vets and they accepted her. Hope this helps =)

depends on the place. i am 14, and i work at one! most of the time, they wont let you do the paper work and stuff. but stuff like walking/cleaning/ cuddling the animals is fine. And a ‘summer job’ you wont get paid. hope you know that
