How to Improve Guitar Technique?

Hi, I am a fairly new guitar player (only been playing for nearly a year) and i was wondering how i could improve my guitar technique? what i would like to improve, is my finger speed, as I find it to slow to the songs i play. Any help would be nice :)

btw, I own both an electric and an acoustic guitar, so any techniques/suggestions would be appreciated :)

I will add to what guitar Czar said. You don’t have to be a speed freak when learning techniques., What is IMPORTANT is the correct fingering, good pick-control and alternate-picking mixed with economy-picking.

Here is a good exercise if you want to improve your speed and alternate picking technique. Once you do this well, your speed will have improved considerable in one month of solid practicing. Alternate pick EVERY note with no exception 7-9-10-7-10-9-7 using fingers 1-3-4, no middle finger.

    E—————————————
    B—————————————
    G—————————————
    D————–7———————–
    A————–7—9–10————-
    E —————————————

Another good technique is to use all fingers and DOING the following on every strings. basically, you would finger the following with these fingers
    1-2-1-2-3-2-3-4-3-4-3-2-3-2-1

    E —— 3–4–3–4–5–4–5–6–5–6–5–4–5–4–3—

    and one more :)
Here, just pick the A-note on the 5th fret and do hammer-on/pull-off for the rest of the notes. Do this on all the strings. This will give you good finger strength and dexterity.

    E—5-h6p–5-h7p–5-h8p–5-h9p–
    5-h8p–5-h7p–5-h6p

    Good Luck

Well i dont think theres a sepcific "technique" but try not looking at your fingers while playing maybe, or try to go faster

what you need to do is be able to get your fingers more flexible
and when not playing drum your fingers on the table as fast as you can
idk drink like 2 liters of mtn dew?

    hope it helps
my guitarist was kinda out of it when i asked him

the best and fastest way to improve your technique is by taking lessons with a good, qualified instructor in your area. A good teacher can show you various exercises to improve your finger speed and teach you a lot more about playing in general. They can also show you if you are developing any bad habits in fingering and help you correct them.

What can I add other than, take it one step at a time and play clean before attempting to gain speed. The exercise Left-T gave will improve your speed and fingering. I tried them already LOL. Cool exercise and not as easy as it looks. Just practice them on both, the acoustic and the electric. It will strengthen your fingers for sure.
