Hi, I get quite a lot of questions on how I approach tapping arpeggios and how I went about learning them, so I figured I might as well make a little lesson about this. These are just some basic exercises to get used to the technique plus some basic arpeggio shapes in the key of A. Obviously I am not an expert on this and still learning as well, but I hope this is going to help some of you along the way. Enjoy and stay tuned for the second part next week.

An arpeggio (plural arpeggi or arpeggios) is a musical technique where notes in a chord are played or sung in sequence, one after the other, rather than ringing out simultaneously. This word comes from the Italian word “arpeggiare” , which means “to play on a harp.” An alternate translation of this term is “broken chord.” Formed from musical scales, the arpeggio is based on the relative scale playing the “key” notes or those affected by the key signature.
